Right to Food and to Food Sovereignty
More than one billion people in the world still suffer from hunger. The international community has recognized the failure of public policies, and warns that the situation will dramatically worsen with the current economic, environmental and energy crises, if urgent and aggressive measures are not taken.
To address the hunger issue, the Observatori DESC works as a network with groups and social movements to defend the right to adequate food as enforceable right. The concept of “food sovereignty” provides the policy framework that, in our view, should be developed by States to meet their international obligations to respect, protect and fulfil the right to adequate food.
