Right to Adequate Housing and to the City
More and more people are facing difficulties in accessing decent housing. In both the northern and southern hemispheres, the conversion of housing into a capital good has meant increased real estate speculation and, therefore, increased prices, as well as phenomena such as landlord harassment, mass evictions and families with excessive debt. As a result, impoverished groups are driven to move to derelict areas of cities or to their peripheries.
To combat this trend, the Observatori DESC forms a network of groups and social movements to defend the right to housing and the right to the city as enforceable rights.
