The Observatory in Latin America
The Observatori DESC develops cooperative projects in Latin America, supporting local organizations that promote and protect the economic, social, cultural and environmental rights (ESCER) of the most vulnerable. Programs are based on a human rights approach, combining the work of building and strengthening social participation with technical and legal assistance to social organizations, in order to prepare proposals and carry out advocacy work using national, regional and international human rights mechanisms.
Relying on the work of networks and international advocacy developed by the Observatori DESC (which establish a cooperative relationship in political and technical terms), various sectors are prioritized: namely, the right to housing, right to the city, right to food and food sovereignty, women’s rights and the fight against debt. Currently, programs are implemented in the following countries: Ecuador, Colombia, Bolivia, Peru, Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina.
